Another update, this one a little sad: the title of State Champion Black Oak has been ceded to another massive tree after the giant at Lake Fayetteville succumbed to natural causes (or maybe death by chainsaw).

I'm a recent transfer from Little Rock, and am looking for things to do with my small kids around Fayetteville. Thanks for posting all this information and maintaining this site.
ReplyDeleteI assure you the old fella died from natural causes! I used to work for the City department that built the paved trail and they were VERY careful about damaging trees and planned the trail specifically to avoid as many trees as possible.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments about the Arklahoma Hiker trail summaries.
